Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—used the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the influential clan could help the party access locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Seekers and Planners groups.

Fans can anticipate finding out which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
